History

Callaway Elementary School, a part of Clayton County Public Schools, first opened its doors on January 7, 2001, welcoming an inaugural class of 760 students. The school is named in honor of Ware C. Callaway, former Superintendent of Clayton County Public Schools from 1948 to 1958.

Prior to the school's completion, the students who would form the first student body of Callaway Elementary were housed at three other schools within the district: Lake Ridge Elementary, Swint Elementary, and West Clayton Elementary. The establishment of Callaway Elementary was part of the county's efforts to accommodate a growing student population and provide a modern learning environment for its elementary students.
